CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
A vote is set for tomorrow in Austin on whether to approve a coke-fired power plant here in Corpus Christi, but critics are fighting until the very end.
Public health and environmental groups gathered in Austin today urging the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to deny an air permit for the proposed Las Brisas power plant. Supporters of the plant say it will pump millions of dollars into our Coastal Bend economy and create thousands of local jobs, but opponents argue there is not enough evidence on the long-term health impacts.
Today, the EPA wrote an open letter to the TCEQ asking the state agency to withhold the permit. A vote on Las Brisas is expected early tomorrow morning at the TCEQ headquarters in Austin.
