FROM THE CORPUS CHRISTI POLICE DEPARTMENT:
On January 1, 2011, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Officers along with CCFD Emergency Personnel were dispatched to the 3720 Brookside in response to a child who had suffered a seizure. Twenty-one month old, Texas Ruiz, was rushed to Driscoll Children's Hospital where he was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter. The Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the death a Homicide on March 4, 2011. The investigation into the death was conducted by the Family Violence Child Protection Unit.
On April 5, 2011, a Family Violence Child Protection Unit Detective obtained Capital Murder warrants for both Juan Javier Garza and Lorraine D. Rodriguez. Garza who was already in custody in the Nueces County Jail for Injury to a Child was additionally charged with Capital Murder. Rodriguez was arrested by the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force at 3829 US HWY 77 and booked at the Nueces County Jail. She was charged with the outstanding Nueces County Warrant for Capital Murder.
