Students, faculty and staff at Dawson Elementary School held a special gathering Friday morning to honor our veterans with a living museum, parade and other activities.

The event was also a celebration of the school's 20th anniversary.

Fifth graders dressed as heroes who made an impact in our country like Loretta P. Walsh, the first woman to receive rank in the U.S. Navy. Another student dressed as Amelia Earhart.

The school itself is named after war hero Joseph T. Dawson, who lived and worked in Corpus Christi. The Dawson family was present for the event along with Corpus Christi Mayor Joe McComb and the Corpus Christi Veterans Band.
