The Corpus Christi Police Department is asking City Council to sign off on a new deal to buy more Tasers for its officers.

"Tasers have been great here and around the country, and yes, some people do die, but in many occasions they've saved lives," Police Chief Floyd Simpson said.

The department is looking to purchase 59 Tasers, at a total cost of $72,000. 39 of those will be used as replacements for older units that are now out of warranty.

The remaining Tasers will go out to new officers who will be hitting the streets soon.
