Those who make their way to Chaparral Street downtown on Wednesday will notice some changes as construction crews open up northbound lanes between Williams and Schatzell streets.

According to the City's Traffic Engineering Office, work in that area will continue on the sidewalks, curbs and gutters, but traffic will now be able to pass through. Stop signs will be removed and traffic signals at the intersections of Williams, Lawrence and Schatzell streets will be turned on.

Crews will be moving on to the next phase of their work as construction of the new Cosmopolitan apartment building takes place. Lawrence Street between Mesquite and Chaparral streets will be closed to traffic to accommodate that construction project, and the sidewalk and parking lane on the west side of Chaparral, between Lawrence and Schatzell streets, will also be closed.
