Mayor Nelda Martinez spoke about what makes our country great Friday at the annual Fourth of July ceremony held at Sherrill Park.

Also in attendance were Congressman Blake Farenthold, Nueces County Judge Loyd Neal and other local office holders.

"We say independence, that we can have the freedoms that we have with the speech, with the religion, with our government, and being able to have spirited debate. Being able to disagree with those that are in the highest office of any authority in any governing body," Martinez said.

Guests at the Sherrill Park ceremony said they are proud to have the privilege of celebrating the liberty we have in the United States of America.
