A number of area dignitaries were on hand Tuesday for the ribbon cutting of a $1.4 million expansion to the Coastal Bend Business Renovation Center.

The Center is also partnered with Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

"In the four years we've been in existence, we've created something north of 400 direct and indirect jobs in the market," said Bill Cone, Director of the Coastal Bend Innovation Center. "So we've had an impact, and this is going to enable us to expand that."

Cone said the $1.4 million remodeling grant from the federal government will enable the Center to roughly double its capacity, and be able to help 35 or 36 small businesses with their expansion plans.

The Innovation Center is located on the 10,000 block of SPID.
