A middle-aged woman collecting cans on the water's edge at the south end of Cole Park, just across from First Baptist Church, slipped and fell down, hitting her head on the rocks Tuesday.

It happened just before 10 a.m. Fire crews were dispatched to the scene and had to drop ropes and a rescue basket to pull the woman to safety.

"She has some head and leg pains, but certainly we need the technical rescue team here today," said David Saenz of the Corpus Christi Fire Department. "That's what they do. They prepared for it and they executed fairly quickly."

The woman suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital.
