The investigation continues into a fire that caused heavy damage to an abandoned house on the city's southside Monday night.

"All I know, it has been vacant for a while," said Battalion Chief Frank Rodriguez of the Corpus Christi Fire Department. "From what I understand. It was a lucky thing that no one was home. So of course it didn't start by itself, so we'll definitely investigate it and see what we can come up with."

The blaze broke out around 9:30 p.m. Monday on Dusty Dawn Road near Everhart and Snowgoose. When crews arrived on the scene, they found smoke and flames coming from the home.

The home did suffer some serious damage, but fortunately no nearby homes were touched.
