Corpus Christi firefighters were called out to two fires that broke out at a couple of southside businesses in the area of Ayers and Frederick at around 11 p.m. Tuesday.
The initial blaze broke out at a cabinet shop in the area. Residents at a nearby apartment complex saw smoke and flames and called 911. The fire spread to another business next to the cabinet shop.
Corpus Christi Fire Department Battalion Chief Frank Rodriguez said it is unclear how the fire started.
"There is a lot of shavings there and stuff. A lot of lacquer and materials like that," Rodriguez said. "So we are not ruling anything out, but at this time it does not appear to be arson."
Thankfully, no one was injured in the blaze. Firefighters were able to get it under control in about 20 minutes.
The owners of the cabinet shop said they will be looking at their security system to see what happened.
