It was a high flying event over at the Navy outlying field in Goliad Tuesday, as the first flight of two T-6 Texan aircrafts took place.

The planes will be the new trainer jets for student pilots out of Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, replacing some T-34 trainer jets. The new planes are said to have state of the art instruments in them and twice the power.

"Amazing airplane to fly," said Commander James Norris of Training Air Wing 4. "Just the performance of the airplane and the avionic package that it brings is far superior than anything that the Navy has ever had."

Student pilots will be able to get into the cockpit of these planes early next year. NAS-Corpus Christi hopes to phase out all T-34 jets with the T-6s in the next two years.
