A burglar is still on the loose after breaking into a home in the Schanen Estates area Tuesday, all while an 11-year old girl was inside.
"For an 11-year old to be home, it's scary," neighbor Ann Marie Santillan said. "It's so scary."
It happened around 1 p.m. on the 4600 block of Schanen, about a block from Schanen Estates Elementary. Police said the robber first knocked on the door, and when no one answered, he broke a front window and made his way inside, not knowing that a young girl was home.
According to police, the little girl found a place to hide and called 911.
When police arrived, they found the robber carrying a flat screen TV out of the home. He dropped it and took off, leaving his car behind.
"We have K-9 after him to see if they can apprehend the suspect," said Sr. Officer Kirk Stowers of the Corpus Christi Police Department.
Both Schanen Estates Elementary and Tom Browne Middle School were put on lockdown while the search was underway. The suspect has still not been caught.
In the meantime, the car that the suspect left behind in the victim's driveway was reported stolen on Monday.
