The victim of a fatal 18-wheeler crash that happened along U.S. Highway 77 at around 1 a.m. Friday has been identified as Van Ty To, a man from Houston.
The Department of Public Safety said that driver fatigue may have been the cause of the accident, which happened in a construction zone where the lanes are narrowed.
DPS Sr. Cpl. Charlie Ramirez said the victim's 18-wheeler left the roadway and struck a guardrail, and then the truck when airborne off of an overpass, striking a water truck that was parked below. After the crash, the 18-wheeler caught fire immediately. When DPS troopers arrived, the truck was engulfed in flames.
No one else was involved in the accident.
