A seven-month old baby that drowned in a bathtub Monday at the Gulfway Manor Apartments on Treyway Circle died in the hospital on Tuesday.

According to police, the infant was in a baby bath seat being bathed by its mother when a one-year old sibling began to cry. The child's mother went to check on the sibling in the living room, and when she returned to the bathtub, she realized that the baby chair had fallen on its side with the seven-month old still in it.

The mother called 911 and the infant was taken to Driscoll Children's Hospital in critical condition.

Kiii News Reporter Anayeli Ruiz met with Child Protective Services officials who say water fatalities in bathtubs occur far too often in South Texas and elsewhere, and that according to CPS statistics, drowning in a bathtub is the second most common place for a child to drown.
