Country station K-99 kicked off their 12th Annual Radiothon benefiting Driscoll Children's Hospital Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The radiothon last year raised $74,000 and for the past 12 years has raised nearly $800,000.

That money benefits families and patients who spend several days and nights living at the hospital. It also pays for programs and classes for the patients.

The phone lines will be open all day Friday until 6 p.m. To pledge any amount starting at $1, call 361-694-6400.

One of those patients benefiting from the fundraiser is "Superman Sam," three year old dialysis patient at Driscoll Children's Hospital. His mother, Katrina Hill has traveled all the way from Lubbock, TX and has spent several months living at the hospital because she says Driscoll is the best hospital in Texas for care.
