A collection of contemporary art pieces made by local artist Shelia Rogers was unveiled and put on display Tuesday morning at the Texas State Aquarium.
At a close glance, viewers would notice that the colorful works of art are actually made up of discarded pieces of plastic that ended up in the ocean and washed ashore.
"Corpus Christi beaches, and especially Ropes Park Beach and Oleander Point near Cole Park, I don't know if the currents dump the plastic in those areas," Rogers said. "That's where I find most of the plastic."
Rogers hopes it will send an important message about pollution to Coastal Bend residents.
