4 CCPD officers on paid leave after man dies from 'excited delirium'

When officers got to the scene, they described the man as being in some sort of state of delirium. EMS crews were immediately called out to treat the man, who became unresponsive.

Four Corpus Christi Police Department officers were placed on paid administrative leave Friday evening after a man died at a call they were responding to.

The incident took place around 4 a.m. Friday at an apartment complex in the 2200 block of Costa Tarragona, near North Padre Island Drive and the Crosstown Expressway. A woman called police on a 38-year-old man who was allegedly acting violent and irrational.

When officers got to the scene, they described the man as being in some sort of state of delirium. EMS crews were immediately called out to treat the man, who became unresponsive.

The man was transported to Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Because of the death and per department policy, the four officers that responded to the scene were placed on paid leave. The CCPD, Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office and District Attorney's Office are all involved in the investigation.
