Roy Reschman can be seen delivering more than 50 meals to senior citizens in Corpus Christi every day through the Meals on Wheels program.

"I finished school and I wanted a second job, so it worked out pretty good," Reschman said. "I like it, helping out the people. It's a good feeling."

Reschman was one of 10 people going door-to-door Friday to serve a total of 490 senior citizens.

"I don't get tired of it," he said. "I guess I like seeing the people."

One of the recipients was John Bower.

"I'm just grateful for what I have," Bower said. "They just do so much."

Bower has been receiving Meals on Wheels for more than four years and before that, he said it was a struggle.

"I had to pinch my pennies to make sure I had enough to get by," Bower said. "I could probably survive somehow, but it'd be a lot more difficult."

Thanks to dedicated workers like Reschman, Bower does not have to worry when his next hot meal will come.

And for Bower, it's more than just a plate of hot food -- it's the human interaction that makes his day.

"They always give me a smiling face," Bower said. "That young man is very nice, and he's, he's been very good to me."

During the holidays, Meals on Wheels will have catered events open to senior citizens in need. The best way to get assistance is by calling 361-826-4120.
