About 2,800 CCISD students took part in National School Walkout

The effort was meant as a symbolic statement about gun violence on school campuses.

Corpus Christi (KIII News) — Estimated totals are in from the local effort to bring more attention to gun violence in schools.

According to the Corpus Christi Independent School District, about 2,800 students from their district took part in the nationwide school walkout event Friday. The effort was meant as a symbolic statement about gun violence on school campuses.

The walkout day was a student-led movement to remember victims of school shootings and call for change in gun laws. It was help Friday because that was also the anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting.

About two dozen students from the Flour Bluff Independent School District took part as well.
