Thursday's accident scene at the I-37 on ramp to the Harbor Bridge is now flowing smoothly -- a welcome sight after the fiery crash that caused a tanker hauling crude oil to explode.
The crash shut down all traffic on the Harbor Bridge for hours. Thankfully, both drivers involved were okay, but one is being charged with failure to maintain his lane.
A police report was obtained by 3News Friday detailing exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the crash.
According to the accident report, the driver of a dump truck owned by Big Branch Transport out of Corpus Christi was driving too fast when the highway curved just before the Harbor Bridge. That caused his dump trunk to collide with the tanker truck carrying crude oil, which immediately caught fire. The report says both drivers ran to avoid getting burned and escaped with no injuries.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
