The Santa Angel Tree giveaway was held Wednesday afternoon at Crockett Elementary School.

For the 175 students and a myriad of volunteers and teachers, it was the beginning of a very busy time at the end of the school day.

Out of the 431 students at Crockett Elementary School, 175 students filed into the cafeteria to receive their gifts. They were joined by Santa, some local mascots, and many of the individuals who volunteered to sponsor presents for one or more of the children.

The students were nominated by teachers and friends to receive new clothes for Christmas.

One of the organizers, Assistant Principal Valerie Nesmith-Arechiga, said it started last year and grew alot this year.

"Last year we started with 40 students and this year it's grown substantially," she said. "We're at 175, so it's definitely a labor of love here at Crockett Elementary."

Organizers hope they can make next year's giveaway even bigger than this year's.
