Corpus Christi police jumped into action Friday morning after a vehicle left running with a baby inside was stolen from the 5800 block of Everhart Road.

The child, a 22-month-old girl, was found a short time later inside the stolen vehicle, which was abandoned outside a tattoo parlor in the 9900 block of SPID. The suspect, however, is still at large.

According to police, a mother left her child inside her car with the engine running while she went inside a business on Everhart Road to run a quick errand at around 10:15 a.m. When she came out, the car was gone.

CCPD quickly put out an alert, which was spread through social media.

Almost an hour later, two women working at a tattoo parlor in Flour Bluff contacted police saying they found the vehicle abandoned with the baby still inside. The suspect was nowhere to be found.

Officers searched the surrounding neighborhoods for that suspect, even bringing out a K-9 unit to assist them.

Meanwhile, Corpus Christi police said the mother of the child could face charges of child endangerment for leaving the baby inside of the running vehicle.

CCPD notified 3News Friday afternoon that they have surveillance video on the area where the vehicle stolen and believe they may have a suspect identified soon. 3News will keep you updated.
