The Kenedy County Sheriff's Office has identified the woman whose body was found Sunday morning at the Padre Island National Seashore as 49-year-old Maria Lockwood of San Antonio.
Lockwood was reported missing to the National Park Service around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. Park Rangers began a search and rescue operation and Lockwood's body was discovered around 9:15 a.m. Sunday.
According to Kenedy County officials, Lockwood appears to have died from an accidental drowning and there are no signs of foul play. The Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office is performing a full autopsy, but they said all signs are pointing to this being a tragic accident.
