A special statewide bike trek is being held to pay respect to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, and a Corpus Christi police officers is taking part.

It's called the Texas Police Memorial Bike Trek. Among the police officers around the state taking part in the ride will be Senior Officer Joseph Garza of the Corpus Christi Police Department.

The riders will be stopping at various cities around the state in which a law officer was killed this past year. A ceremony to honor the fallen is held at every stop.

The trek began Monday in Kingsville where riders paid tribute to Ken Starrs, a former CCPD captain and most recently a member of the South Texas Drug Task Force. He was killed in a traffic accident last November.

The riders will eventually make their way up to Austin where they will hold a ceremony at the Texas Peace Officers Memorial. The officers will have riden more than 1,000 miles by the time their trek is over.
