Nueces County Commissioner Brent Chesney dropped a political bombshell during a luncheon Wednesday concerning the future of longtime County Judge Loyd Neal.
Chesney thanked the judge for his longtime service as mayor of Corpus Christi and as county judge. He then told the audience at the Flour Bluff Business Association luncheon that his close friend would not be running for reelection.
After the meeting ended, Judge Neal told 3News it was time to step aside since he was about to turn 80 years old. He said he is ready to enjoy retirement out on the open road.
"I don't play golf. Don't fish. Don't hunt; but I do like going to different sporting events that Texas A&M is involved in, and my wife and I have a motor home and we go up to all the football games," Neal said.
Neal said he does look forward to his final 18 months in office.
