Donations needed for sixth annual Island Blast Fireworks Show

"This year has been real slow. Probably some of that is related to Harvey. It slowed everyone down a little bit," Watkins said. "We're only two and a half months away and we're still quite a bit short."

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) — For the sixth year in a row, the Island Blast Fireworks Show will be held on the Fourth of July at the end of the Whitecap near the Padre Island Yacht Club.

It's all thanks to Jerry Watkins, who started the tradition with the help of donations from the community. It began with 1,200 mortar style rockets, and more and more people come each year.

Some even watch from their boats.

However, Watkins said this year donations have been slow when it comes to donations.

"This year has been real slow. Probably some of that is related to Harvey. It slowed everyone down a little bit," Watkins said. "We're only two and a half months away and we're still quite a bit short."

So far this year, they are short $11,000. If you would like to donate, write a check or money order to Island Blast and mail it to 14493 SPID Suite A, Corpus Christi, Texas, 78418.
