"Smile, you're in Corpus"... Oops.

A Coastal Bend resident shared this photo with 3News Friday -- a downtown painting that missed its mark. The error might not jump right out at you, but it doesn't take long to notice the missing T in "Christi."

The good news is, the artist was alerted to it quickly and as of Friday morning, it was in the process of being repainted.

This miniature mural was painted on one of the City's downtown utility boxes right across from the new Cosmopolitan high-rise apartments by local artist Jose Maria Lopez. He said he finished painting it two days ago and was alerted to the error by an employee at the Cosmopolitan.

"In the morning when I drove up and I got off to go into the building, I saw there was a 'T' missing, and I saw him and said, 'Hey, there was a 'T' missing,'" Vincente Chapa said. "And he goes, 'Oh, thank you very much.' He had not seen it, you know."

Lopez was commissioned by the Marina Arts District to paint two of the downtown utility boxes this year, something they do each year in an effort to beautify downtown Corpus Christi.

Lopez said he was concentrating more on colors than spelling, but the mistake didn't bother passersbys who saw his work.

Alan Albin, interim director of the Downtown Management District, which pays the artists, said it's just one of those things.

"And so we came and had a look, and sure enough, Jose Maria must have been out in the sun too long. He for a 'T,'' Albin said.

Albin said the traffic control box is on the new route for the Art Walk and people should go check it out.

As for the artist, Lopez said he is not embarrassed. He just appreciated somebody pointing it out.
