A two-vehicle accident just after 7 a.m. Tuesday in Robstown claimed the life of one man and left a woman in critical condition.
It happened on County Road 69. According to Department of Public Safety troopers, a white Ford F-150 was traveling south when it crashed into the driver's side of a grey F-150 that was heading east on FM 2826.
Troopers said the grey truck failed to yield at the stop sign. The driver of that truck died at the scene. His passenger, a woman, was transported via HALO-Flight to Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital with a series of injuries but in stable condition.
The deceased driver has been identified as 56-year-old Manuel Pena Jr. of Robstown.
A witness at the scene said he was in shock that something like that happened just in front of his home.
"This is a feeling you can't really describe. You wake up and see an accident like this and you're hoping everyone is okay at this moment," Ramiro Alejandere said. "Obviously somebody didn't make it, and this is right before our eyes, here at home."
The driver of the white truck was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
