A young girl is thankful to be alive after being rescued from the waters of North Beach Friday morning.

"I saw her with her arms out of the water and she was there for a good five minutes before the officer actually got into the water," witness Adam Duecker said.

Duecker, who witnessed the rescue, said the Corpus Christi police and fire departments responded. An officer was the first on the scene and jumped into the water with a life preserver to save the eight-year old. He said the fire department then showed up with a boat to bring the girl out of the water.
