Relatives have confirmed that a 74-year-old man has died after a fire broke out Thursday night at a home on Mary Street, near the Crosstown Expressway.

Three firefighters were also injured in the blaze.

According to fire officials, the fire broke out just before 10 p.m. and when officers arrived, the home was already fully engulfed in flames. 74-year-old Baltazar Cisneros was inside the home at the time and the firefighters rushed in to rescue him.

Cisneros was living with his son, who was not home at the time of the blaze. Officials said the fire started because Cisneros had been smoking in bed.

His son confirmed to 3News Friday afternoon that Cisneros had died from his injuries.

The three injured firefighters were treated for minor injuries -- one for smoke inhalation, one for a cut to the head, and the other for burns to his ears.
