The Port Aransas Ferry had to be shutdown for a short time Thursday following an oil spill in the Corpus Christi ship channel, where the ferry operates.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, a private facility near the ferry landing reported a small oil spill after a hose came loose from a barge. It happened around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

All Harbor Island landings were closed temporarily to allow for an environmental cleanup. Motorists were diverted to Highway 361 during that time.

The ferry service was suspended for about an hour before resuming.
