Natural Science students at Del Mar College are getting the chance to hear from one of the top scientists at the University of California - San Diego. Dr. Geert W. Schmid-Schönbein is the keynote speaker at DMC's annual Student Research Day.
The event is held as an opportunity for Del Mar research students to share some of the highlights of the work they have completed during the past academic year. Dozens of students set up their displays with detailed information about various topics in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Dr. Schmid-Schönbein gave the students an inside look at some of his own research. In his teachings, Dr. Schmid-Schönbein focuses on bioengineering and the molecular mechanics.
His research team has recently discovered a fundamental mechanism for inglammation and dysfunctions of cell due to “Autodigestion.”
