One thing you probably don't expect to see in the gulf is a deer, but last weekend, a group of good Samaritans found themselves trying to rescue a buck from the water.

The deer was tied up in fishing wire near Bob Hall Pier.

A couple who found the deer says a fisherman had accidentally hooked onto the buck's hooves and then cut his line.

They say the deer was struggling in the water for about five hours.

With the closest game warden an hour away, a group of good Samaritans got together to try to pull the deer out of the water.

They eventually got the buck out and covered him with blankets, as he was exhausted and unable to move.

Game wardens say the deer easily could have died in the water.

They also say a coyote likely chased the deer out to the island from Kleberg country.

Our Briana Whitney speaks with the woman who saved the deer.
