Over 200 free turkeys were given out Monday night to families in need at the Solid Rock Church. The church has teamed up with the Coastal Bend Food Bank for 17 years to provide holiday meals to those in need.

"We are passing out turkeys and food for all of the people that need it," volunteer Joshua Garza said.

Some individuals were looking forward to taking a turkey home with them.

"It helps a lot because I'm getting a turkey for Thanksgiving," Felicia Schusteer said.

"When they don't have the opportunity to have the money to afford a turkey then it helps them out a lot like myself," Sarah Denny said.

Other individuals had the chance to grab a turkey for those who could not make the event.

"I come out here, and normally I get blessed with the turkey, so I'm going to bless somebody else with the turkey," Frank Navarro said.

Individuals received additional items to have a complete Thanksgiving feast. The turkey outreach gifts are possible because of the donations from church members and the Coastal Bend Food Bank.

"We are blessed you know. As a church, we are blessed. We're blessed you know to give back to our community," Project Coordinator Christina Hernandez said.

All families have to do each year is register online, so they have a chance to receive a turkey.
