The man found guilty in the 2016 murder of 30-year old Monica Ramos is requesting a new trial.

Last month, 35-year old Feliciano Cruz was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of killing Ramos last summer.

Cruz says the verdict could have been misled due to the lack of evidence provided by his counsel as well as t-shirts worn by the victims family.

According to the Caller-Times, officials say Cruz's current argument does not properly show the shortcomings of his defense.

In this week's hearing he maintained the events in July 2016 were an accident.
