Supporters of Mark Gonzalez and James Gardener waited anxiously through out the day Tuesday and into the early morning hours Wednesday to hear the results that determined the next District Attorney of Nueces County.

Gonzalez beat out his opponent with 50.59% of votes, but it was a few hours before a candidate was officially elected. Nueces County Clerk Kara Sands told 3News that ballots go through a process before they can officially be counted.

Joseph Ramirez, a spokesperson for Mark Gonzalez said Gonzalez and his campaign held a 1,200 point lead.

Gardener was not available for comment at the time.

This will be Mark Gonzalez's first term as District Attorney.

Though he was also not available for immediate comments we are told he is ready to serve the people of Nueces County.
