The official numbers from recent cold-stunning events involving sea turtles along the Texas coast were released Thursday.

Experts said the highest number of the endangered animals were found in the lower Laguna Madre. Between Dec. 8 and Jan. 5, 140 were found right here in the Coastal Bend. In all, 1,800 sea turtles have been rescued in our area.

More than 2,400 turtles have been rescued along the entire coast.

Experts say this is the largest number of rescued cold-stunned turtles in history.
