One person was killed and two others were taken to the hospital following a two-car accident on I-37. The accident happened Friday night about a half mile northeast of Mathis.

According to a report by DPS, the driver of a vehicle was unable to avoid striking another vehicle in front of him.

That vehicle was said to be going slower than the posted speed limit of 75 MPH as the driver prepared to exit the highway.

State Troopers say 61-year-old Richard Suggs out of George West was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two people in the vehicle that was hit by Suggs were taken to Christus Spohn Memorial hospital and were later released.

Troopers say Suggs was wearing a seatbelt.
