A special themed luncheon event fundraiser was held to help the a senior volunteer program.

The event was called "Pages on the Table" and it was held at the American Bank Center.

The event helps the Senior Companion Program.

It's composed of volunteers age 55 and older who serve as companions to other seniors who are homebound or cannot be left alone.

Organizers say last year, local volunteers served over 76,000 hours so that seniors living alone could remain in their own homes and caregivers could continue caring for their loved ones.

The program is also sponsored by the City of Corpus Christi and operates under the Parks and Recreation department.

The City provides matching funds so that the services can be administered in our community at no charge to recipients.
