Preparations are currently underway for the annual Joe Salem Dinner that will take place Thursday for Thanksgiving. Volunteers will be working early Thursday morning to prepare everything for the big feast which takes place at Sokol Hall.

Thursday the hall will be filled with hundreds of individuals for Thanksgiving dinner, in the Coastal Bend many individuals look forward to eating at the Joe Salem Dinner.

A long-standing tradition started by Joe Salem as a way to give back to the community.

"You know you just saw that love he gave to our community," organizer Lisa Saenz said.

Saenz first experienced the generosity 24-years-ago when she began volunteering at the dinner.

"Really working with him, brought the best out of me, that is something you want to continue in his memory," Saenz said.

Wednesday night Saenz went over last-minute preparations for the Thanksgiving day.

"Something Mr.Salem always made sure we went line by line, and people left happy, that's what the community can expect this year," Saenz said.

The feast begins at noon Thursday and continues until 2 p.m.
