Long lines formed outside the First Baptist Church in Rockport early Monday morning as the Salvation Army set up to provide financial assistance for those in need since Hurricane Harvey.

Officials there was a limited amount of funds to go around, but they are aiming to help as many people as possible.

One resident told 3News that people began lining up outside the church as early as 3 a.m.

Ciprian Hinojosa said he lost everything in the hurricane and still needs a lot of financial help three months after the storm devastated the Rockport area. He was among many others who showed up to see what kind of help the could get.

"A lot of people aren't working and you may barely get by on Social Security, but you have all of these expenses too," Katie Lewis said. "If it weren't for groups like this it would be very difficult."

"I'm looking for whatever I get today. Maybe get stuff for my kids," Denise Curtess said. "Christmas is coming and something I'm looking forward to."

The two were standing in the long line together. Curtess and her family now live with Lewis since their home and possessions were destroyed in the hurricane. Both families are still struggling to make ends meet.

"What we're trying to do is meet the needs of people who need help on a case-by-case basis, so we have caseworkers out here in Rockport who are interviewing and seeing what people need," Salvation Army Lt. Laura Gesner said. "That could mean food or clothing. That's what we can do with the limited funding we have."

The Salvation Army took names to put on a list for a future appointment. The organization is hoping to know by Dec. 8 if it has enough funds to help out all of the people who showed up.

"We have to bring our FEMA letter and our ID, proof of residence," Lewis said. "Then we'll get a gift card or whatever they have."

The Salvation Army is hoping donors will help by going to www.helpsalvationarmy.org and making a donation. Any money donated there will stay in the Coastal Bend for those affected by Harvey.
