The Bee County Sheriff's Office put out a warning Wednesday to Bee County residents of a scam that is circulating in the area.

The Sheriff's Office said a person identifying themselves as a Bee County Sheriff's deputy is calling residents and telling them they have missed a jury summons for County Court and that a warrant is out for their arrest. The scammer then says that County Judge Stephanie Moreno will lift the warrant if they purchase a money voucher at local retail stores and give them the voucher information.

Sheriff Alden Southmayd assures residents that no deputy from his office is making those kinds of calls, and if anyone receives such a phone call they should not give out any information. The sheriff said to ask for a call-back number if possible and call the Sheriff's Office at 361-362-3221.
