Southmayd elected as Bee County Sheriff

Interim sheriff Alden Southmayd has been voted in as the permanent head of law enforcement in Bee County.

Interim sheriff Alden Southmayd has been voted in as the permanent head of law enforcement in Bee County.

Southmayd was the Chief Deputy under Sheriff Carlos Carrizales until he passed away in February. The democratic candidate will continue to serve for the next four years.

Southmayd says building a new jail and sheriff's office is one of his top priorities. Upon winning the vote, he tells 3 News that " It's a blessing, its awesome and honestly I think it goes to show how well the sheriff's office is working with the community."

Southmayd says he will continue with the foundation laid out by the late Sheriff Carrizales.
