U.S.S. Lexington crew mourns loss of former Director Rocco Montesano

Montesano passed away at around 3 a.m. He was 68 years old.

CORPUS CHRISTI — Former U.S.S. Lexington Executive Director Rocco Montesano died Friday morning due to complications from cancer, according to current Executive Director Captain Steve Banta.

Montesano passed away at around 3 a.m. He was 68 years old.

Montesano was a retired U.S. Navy captain and spent more than 20 years as Executive Director of the USS Lexington. He retired from his post in January of 2018 and turned the ship over to retired U.S. Navy Captain Steve Banta.

He was instrumental in making the Lexington the major tourist attraction that it is today. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be made available as soon as they are ready.
