A woman was killed Monday while walking on northbound Highway 286 between Baldwin and Gollihar.

It was the 38th traffic fatality in this city so far in 2017.

The Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as 30-year-old Rosalee Garcia.

Investigators said the accident happened around 1 a.m. Monday. The Corpus Christi Police Department had received calls about a woman walking on northbound Highway 286 and when they arrived, they found Garcia dead after she had been hit by a truck and dragged by another vehicle.

Parts of the highway were closed to drivers during a police investigation.

"Both drivers are very shaken up right now. They're not at fault in this case," CCPD Lt. Timothy Frazier said. "We've had a lot of pedestrian fatals this year. That's something that's kind of worrisome, and something we are looking into."

The drivers involved in the accident will not face any charges.
