In the 28th District Court Thursday, Judge Nanette Hassette found 28-year old David Christy, the man accused of killing, dismembering and burying his grandmother in her own backyard in February of 2013, mentally competent to stand trial for murder.

Christy was arraigned Thursday morning on charges of murder and assault of a public servant, as well as six counts of having a deadly weapon in a penal institution after officers found that, while locked up, Christy had turned silverware into shanks.

It was back in March of 2013 when Christy's attorney asked Judge Hassette to order a mental evaluation for his client, which she agreed to do. Three months later, Judge Hassette ruled that Christy was not competent to stand trial.
