A breakfast recognition ceremony was held Tuesday morning at the Solomon P. Ortiz Center to honor those who volunteer here in our City.
200 volunteers who are a part of the Foster Grandparent Program, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and the Senior Companion Program were honored at the ceremony by Mayor Nelda Martinez.
Martinez said the volunteers have a positive and lasting impact on our community by making our city a better place to live.
"We have them go to people's home and they bring meals. They also tend to their groceries," Martinez said. "They help them also with the health care and exercise regiment, and connecting with their family, and in some who don't have family, they are their family."
These services have saved the community thousands of dollars.
