A video taken from a nearby traffic camera shows the exact moment a pedestrian bridge at Florida International University collapsed, crushing cars and killing at least six people.

Florida authorities confirmed to the Miami Herald that the cell phone video posted online late Thursday night was shot inside a state-run office where workers monitor traffic flow.

A spokeswoman for Miami-Dade's Transportation and Public Works Department told the media outlet that the surveillance footage seen in the clip came from the county's traffic camera near the scene, but said that device isn't set up to preserve footage.

"The video posted on social media appears to have been an individual recording of the system playback from the Sunguide Center’s monitors," spokeswoman Karla Damian explained.

The short video clip shows traffic moving normally then the bridge suddenly collapses.

Authorities on Friday said they fear there could be more fatalities beyond the six deaths already confirmed. The newly-installed bridge had been put to a "stress test" and its cables were being tightened when it collapsed.

Warning: The video of this incident can be hard to watch.
