One man is dead after being struck by an SUV Monday night. The unidentified victim was walking along Clarkwood south of Highway 44 when he was struck at 11 p.m. Investigators say he was wearing dark clothes and listening to music when an 18-year-old driver crashed into him. That driver tried to help the man waiting for emergency responders to show. Senior Officer Travis Pace says the area was poorly lit.

"Wear reflective clothing, wear bright clothing, do not walk in the middle of the roadway," said Senior Officer Pace. "You see out here there is plenty of shoulder, walk way out on the shoulder. Because you never know what could happen."

Pace added alcohol was not a factor. The 18-year-old driver was not cited in this fatal accident.
