This weekend marks the 18th anniversary of the death of Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla-Perez, and fans are making a pilgrimage to pay tribute.

It's an anniversary that not everyone wants to remember, but for fans, it's an opportunity to pay tribute to their idol.

"I think she is still an icon," said Dora Valle, a fan from Dallas. "Her music is still played everywhere, and she will live on forever."

Back in 1995, Selena was killed by the president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldivar. The crime devastated so many of her fans worldwide.

Saldivar was later convicted and sentenced to life in prison, and even though it has been 18 years since her death, fans still remember her like it was yesterday.

On Friday, fans from all over gathered at her statue. Some came from as far as Las Vegas, and many were from here in Texas. Many will gather in the Molina neighborhood to pay tribute on Sunday.
